Night Sky & Telescope Viewing Dubbo Observatory

Your tour guide Peter Starr has a Masters Degree in astronomy and was a Manager at the famous Siding Spring Observatory, Australias largest optical telescope facility.

  • 1 hour and 15 minute show includes:
  • Talk about what we will see and some basic astronomy.

View the planets, stars, and galaxies through our new 17" telescope in our new observatory.

  • Up to 6 telescopes depending on number of people attending.
  • View at least a dozen different objects through the telescopes.
  • Point out constellations, stars and planets with a laser pointer
  • Explain in detail about what you are looking at.
  • Answer your questions on the night sky and universe.

Astrophotography with your canon, nikon, pentax SLR Camera or bring your SD card for our camera. We take 1 photo per camera of a colourful nebula at the end of the show for no extra charge. The camera needs to have a lens that can be removed. Mirrorless cameras are generally not compatible.

The show is limited to 28 people maximum due to the corona virus restrictions. This number may change to as the State Government restrictions change.

This is an outdoor activity. So dress according to the weather conditions. In some summer months there can be the odd mosquito so either cover up or apply some insect propellant.

 Note all people regardless of age require a ticket due to the restricted numbers imposed.

Terms & Conditions

By purchasing a ticket, you agree to these terms and conditions.

Only the ticket holder can use the ticket as we are required to keep names and contacts for 28 days in casw NSW health want to trace people who may have been exposed to covid 19.

Everyone must have a ticket. This extends to all ages including babies as we have restricted numbers allowed on site and have to keep contact details. If you bring extra people they will be turned away as we cant go over our limit.

The number permitted into this tour maybe revised up to a higher number if Govt restrictions are lifted further.

Abide by social distancing requirements 1.5m from other people. If you are bringing children please instruct them to stay with you at all times.

If you are unwell please cancel your booking.

Use the hand sanitiser available or use your own on entry and through the evening as necessary.

Please cough or sneeze into your elbow. Please instruct this with your children.

Only  a max of 4 people from the same family can enter the observatory at anyone time due to space restrictions.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you decided to cancel your booking, a refund is only given if 72 hours notice is given to the observatory by contacting by email Your booking fees are not refunded.
  • If less than 72 hours notice is given, no refund is given.

Changing numbers in your booking

We cannot change numbers to your booking as the payment is made in one trasaction. We can cancel the whole booking and you can rebook for the numbers you want to change to. 72 hours notice is required to cancel a booking.

Transfer tickets to another night.

Tickets cannot be transferred to any other session. You would need to cancel your booking with 72 hours notice and repurchase a new ticket.

Overcast Nights

  • If it is overcast, raining, or high winds we cancel the show and issue a refund.

Cancellation by Observatory

          The show maybe cancelled if the tour guide is sick, or if NSW Health have directed us to do so with chanding restrictions. A refund is given.
