Event Information

Just days following Molly Croft’s 12th Birthday, she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer which most commonly occurs in children and young adults. Molly commenced chemotherapy in August and will remain at Westmead Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House for many months.

Craig Granger, an avid Dubbo cyclist and family friend of The Croft Family, will be attempting to ride 300 kilometres in less than 12 hours on Saturday 6th October to raise much needed funds to help Molly on one of her biggest life challenges to date.

We asked Craig why?
His reply was that “if Molly, a 12-year-old girl, can sustain the demands of chemotherapy, a leg operation and the social upheaval of residing in Sydney, 370 kilometres away from her support network of friends and family – then 12 hours on a bike, with whatever discomfort that brings him, is a small price to pay to help this little girl get better and return to Dubbo – cancer free.”

100% of the monies raised will be forwarded to The Crofts to assist with accommodation, travel, medical and household expenses, so that they can focus their energy on the health of their little girl.

The Crofts have also pledged to donate a percentage of funds raised to Ronald McDonald House, who have been outstanding with providing accommodation and a level of normality for The Croft Family while they battle this cancer together.

If all goes to plan, Craig will commence his ride from Victoria Park, #1 Oval at 6.00am Saturday 6th October, and will endeavour to complete the 300km round trip at approx. 6:00pm that same evening.

Craig has been committed to an intense training schedule in the lead up to the day and believes the challenge he has set is definitely tough, yet achievable. Factors on the day may come into play including unpredictable weather events such as wind, heat, cold and possible rain – regardless of the weather, Craig’s’ ride will go ahead. We wish him the best of luck!

Please join us at Victoria Park, #1 Oval for a picnic celebration when we welcome Craig back to Dubbo. BBQ and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring a chair or picnic rug.

If you would like to sponsor Craig on his Butterfly Ride for Molly and for more information please Karen Granger – 0438855169.

Victoria Park, #1 Oval Dubbo at 6:00am, Saturday 6th October 2018.
Craig will commence with two laps of the Victoria Park track then head off in an attempt to travel 300 kms in 12 hours.

Left onto Darling street, turn right onto Wingewarra street down the hill to Bligh street, heading south to Tamworth street. Craig will continue down to the river over the foot bridge, along the bike path up towards Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and then left onto Obley Road.

Travel along Obley road to Benalong road, turn left and continue onto Terrabella road to Arthurville road, heading south to Zaias lane along to Bushrangers Creek road. Up into Mount Arthur reserve and into Wellington at approximately 8:20am.

Craig will ride down the main street through Wellington heading north over the Macquarie River out to the end of the 80km zone turning right onto Cobbora road. Craig will then head north all the way to Muronbung road and turn left. This will take Craig to the Golden highway, east of Ballimore at the expected time of approx. 10:30am.

Craig will follow the highway heading back towards Dubbo and turn right onto Bothenba road, past Fletchers grain yards and Dubbo sale yards, onto the Newell highway. He will then turn right and head towards Brocklehurst. Turn right onto the Ulomogo/Mogriguy road, continue through Mogriguy and onto Eumungerie at approximately 1:00pm.

Head west out of Eumungerie to cross the Newell highway along Eumungerie road towards Narromine. Go through Narromine and head east onto the Mitchell highway, back towards Dubbo. Before entering Dubbo, Craig will turn right onto North Minore road and ride along to Minore and then East along Minore Road onto the first railway overpass, turning right onto the beginning of several short link roads, ending up at the intersection of Sappa Bulga road and Peak Hill/Newell highway and travel a short distance north, then turn right onto Camp road at around 5:30pm. Craig will head back down to Obley road and turn left toward Taronga Western Plains Zoo and return to the bike path heading home to #1 Oval, Victoria Park.

According to Google Maps, this route totals 295kms. Upon return to Victoria Park #1 Oval, Craig will complete several laps around the bike track to achieve the target number of 300kms.

We look forward to welcoming Craig and his support team back to Victoria Park, #1 Oval at approx. 6pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
