Event Information

Join us as we head west on the Blue Mountaineer! Explore the winter delights of the mountains communities as we take you to Leura, Katoomba. Medlow Bath and Lithgow, hauled by diesel locomotives and featuring our beautifully restored and maintained carriages!

The Blue Mountaineer departs Central and takes you through the west of Sydney across the Cumberland plain, before ascending the steep grades of the Blue Mountains. Winding through valleys and along the ridgelines, witness spectacular sandstone escarpments and canyons, and see the temperate forests within.

Make your choice of lunch venue at one of the magical towns we stop at, and let us take care of the driving!

Your safety is our number one priority.  Our approach to managing Covid safely is to follow the NSW Public Health Orders.  We ask you to also observe the requirements and welcome you to take measures that you feel neccessary to safegaurd yourself.

If you are using a Sydney Trains or NSW TrainLink service to connect with our train, please visit or call 131 500 to plan your connecting journey to Central. Please ensure you arrive at your boarding station at least 15 minutes before our scheduled departure time. As we share the railway with many other trains, we CANNOT and WILL NOT wait for late passengers.

A light buffet service providing snacks, drinks and alcohol will be available on the train.

Please be aware that the carriages on the Cockatoo Run are heritage cars with narrow doors, aisles and walkways, and are not equipped with wheelchair spaces. Due to space constraints, it is unfortunately not possible for wheelchairs to be manoeuvred to seats from the entrance vestibule, so it is necessary for passengers to be able to make their way to their seats. Walking frames must be able to be folded, as there is limited storage space and items may not be stowed in aisles or doorways.
