Event Information

Take a ride down memory lane. Experience the Coffs Coast in a 1960s diesel train with windows that open to catch the summer breeze.

Hinterland Picnic Train is a great choice for the family or group of friends, at approximately 2 hours duration. Take your picnic basket, your favourite snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Please note that as the train is licensed NO BYO ALCOHOLIC DRINKS. Our friendly volunteers can assist with alcohol purchases. You will see Coastal Estuaries, Park Beach, Rainforest, the 5 handbuilt tunnels and rural hinterland on the way to the former Glenreagh railway precinct before returning to Coffs Harbour through the picturesque Orara Valley.

COVID19 INFORMATION

We are designated as transport and as such normal seating numbers apply. A condition of entry is that masks must be worn on platforms and while on the train except when eating or drinking. To maintain a register of passenger contacts we only accept online bookings.

Sanitiser is provided and is to be used on entering and leaving the train. We are not air-conditioned and recommend that all windows be kept open whenever possible to maintain a healthy airflow.

If you are not comfortable around crowds we recommend that you do not book this year but join us on future trips. We are continually monitoring the advice from NSW Health and passengers will be contacted if any changes are made.

COVID SAFETY - NSW GOVERNMENT PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER REQUIREMENTS

Your safety is our number one priority.  Our approach to managing Covid safely is to follow the NSW Public Health Orders.  We ask you to also observe the requirements and welcome you to take measures that you feel necessary to safeguard yourself.

We will provide more information about the specific requirements for this trip closer to the date. Currently, you are required to wear a mask at the station and platform as this is designated public transport. Once onboard the Rattler you may remove your mask if you wish.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you accept NSW Dine and Discover vouchers?

  • Yes, we accept one discover voucher per person per business per day.

Do I need to buy a ticket for my baby or small child?

  • If a baby or small child can be nursed the entire journey then your child can travel FOC. We must consider the comfort of all passengers and if a child is going to sit on a seat then a ticket needs to be bought.

Do you offer family discounts?

  • Yes, we do. After selecting your family or grandparents' special tickets. i.e Family (2 Adults + 2 Children) and Grandparents Special (2 Seniors + 2 Children)  Then select the "group" button to apply the family or grandparent special rate. 

Does the train have a toilet?

  • Yes all carriages have flushing toilets and hand basins. They are however 1961 design and small by modern standards.

Do we get off the train?

  • No as the only platform is at THE STATION YOU BOARDED FROM we board at  return to THE SAME STATION

Can I buy tickets from the staff at My Local Railway Station?

  • No, this is NOT a Trains NSW event and station staff are not able to assist.

I don’t have a credit card, how can I buy a ticket?

  • We are sorry but due to our requirement to track all pasenger details as a COVID precaution we only accept online bookings.

Can I bring food and drink on the train?

  • Yes we encourage people to bring their own food and drink. This is especially recommended for young children in case we are delayed and have to wait at a siding for other trains.
  • Vending machines for food and cold drinks are at the Station.
  • The train is licenced so NO BYO ALCOHOL is permitted. Our volunteers can assist with alcohol sales, please bring cash as we do not always have service for our EFTPOS machine.

Do you have seating for groups?

  • We have limited seating for groups, the front and rear seats of each group of seats don’t have flipping backrests but most in the centre do. If you have a group try to book in the centre of a group of seats so you can flip the backrests to have facing seats.

Do you have disabled access?

  • We carry access ramps and people in wheelchairs can ride comfortable in the vestibule area. Please arrive at the station early and identify yourself to our volunteers who will assist with your boarding.

Do you have any other trips?

  • As a small volunteer society, we can only afford to run trains with good passenger numbers. We have extra trips available and these are released to keep ahead of demand.

Do you have free seats for disability carers?

  • Yes we offer free seats to card carrying disability carers when accompanying a disabled person. please call our ticketing agent 123 Tix on 02 6881 8632 with your companion card details. Phone support is offered Mon - Thurs 9am - 5pm, Fri 9am - 3pm

Terms & Conditions

When booking your ticket, you must affirm that you will withdraw yourself and your immediate contacts from the tour before the tour date if you are unwell.  A full refund will be provided to any pasenger who withdraws due to coronavrius precautions.

Whilst you are able to select your seat, for operational reasons we cannot guarantee that this seat will be facing forward for the duration of the trip.  We also cannot determine whether a particular seat will have particular views.  

We reserve the right to change your seat allocation (within the same fare type) for operational reasons.  We will endeavour to contact you if these changes are deemed significant. 

Due to timetables on the day, we cannot guarantee exact arrival and departure times.

We welcome bookings for disabled passengers, however our carriages are heritage carriages and therefore we cannot accept bookings for some disabilities.  Please contact us to discuss your situation before booking.

We reserve the right to cancel this train if sufficient bookings are not received to cover costs.

Tickets are non refundable, except at the discrection of Rainforest Rattler. If tickets are refunded they will be refunded less any payment fees required to effect the refund.
