Come and view the astonishing southern night sky through our telescopes with the team at Milroy Observatory and enjoy our "Night Sky Show".
One of our astronomers presents The Night Sky Show and offers telescope views and a tour of the pristine dark skies from the incredibly dark sky location at Milroy Observatory, Coonabarabran. Our shows are hands-on, and you will have the opportunity to look at many objects through a telescope.
If you have binoculars - please feel free to bring them along, and we can point out objects of interest as well.
Your tour commences with a guided walk through our Milky Way galaxy, stopping off at constellations, including the visible signs of the Zodiac along the way, as your astronomer explains how the universe works and how stars are formed. Learn about the Southern Cross and how to find south, see the Magellanic Clouds - two galaxies orbiting our own and hear some stories of the Dreaming.
The team at Milroy Observatory will take you on a unique journey through space and time itself as you witness the wonders of star birth, globular clusters of stars, even planets if they are visible, and much more. You will see that the sky has seasons that beckon you to come back, again and again, to follow and learn more about our ever-changing sky.
Terms & Conditions
Overcast Nights
- Suppose it becomes overcast when the show starts unexpectedly. In that case, we may offer an "Ask the Astronomer" session and history of the observatory and then if the sky clears in parts, we will show you what objects we can through the telescope.
- If the weather is obviously not suitable with rain, severe winds, or thick cloud cover, we will contact you to either reschedule or refund as our shows are all conducted out of doors.
Cancellation by Customer
- Your entry fee is refunded if you cancel or change numbers with more than 48 hours' notice provided.
- Service NSW Vouchers are unable to be refunded as cash or to your card according to Service NSW conditions, and therefore credit will be issued against future bookings.
- If we cancel due to weather or other reasons beyond our control. In this case, we will contact you to refund or transfer your booking.
- If less than 48 hours' notice is given, no refund is given if you cancel.
- To claim your refund please email, call, or text with your name, booking number, and method of payment.
- We are unable to offer partial refunds.
- If you no show for your tour departure time, or if you leave the tour prior to completion for any reason, no refund will be made.
- Credit charge surcharges and booking fees are non-refundable.
