Event Information

Central - Bathurst - Central The Central West Streamliners.

Join us for a family day out to Bathurst on The Central West Streamliner. After leaving the hustle and bustle of Sydney, you will start ascending the scenic Blue Mountains, climbing nearly 1000 meters of elevation, before passing the historic Zig Zag Railway. From there you will be able to see the rolling green hills of the Central West, before arriving in Bathurst. There will be approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to explore the historic town, where you will also be able to find lunch. There are several pubs and cafe's close to the railway station, with the main street being a 1 km walk. There you will find attractions such as Annie's Old Fashion Ice-Cream Parlour, the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, as well as a variety of restaurants and food venues. The new Bathurst Explorer Bus will also be available to see the sights of the town, picking up and dropping off from the railway station. You will then board the train for the return journey back to Sydney, under the setting sun.

This tour is being run to raise money for the ongoing restoration of heritage locomotive CL17, the very last EMD Streamlined loco built in the world. With the tremendous support of the general public, Streamliners Australia was able to successfully save CL17 from scrap in June last year, before it was moved to Cootamundra for its restoration to begin. Initial inspections looked positive, however when thorough inspections were completed, it was discovered that the locomotive had a seized turbocharger. These don't come cheap, in the vicinity of $50,000. All profits made from this journey will be going towards the new turbo charger, which is why we need your help to share this event far and wide. Every dollar helps us get closer to being able to have CL17 running on the mainline again.
We will be having raffles on the day with prizes to be revealed closer to the day, as well as some merchandise available on the train. You might even be lucky enough to meet the Railroad Australia star, Bernie Baker. Don't wait long to book tickets, as they are expected to sell quickly.

The train picks up at Central, Strathfield, Parramatta, and Blacktown
