Event Information
Come and view the astonishing southern night sky through our telescopes with the team at Milroy Observatory and enjoy our "Night Sky Show".
One of our astronomers presents The Night Sky Show and offers telescope views and a tour of the pristine dark skies from the incredibly dark sky location at Milroy Observatory, Coonabarabran. Our shows are hands-on, and you can look at many objects through a telescope.
If you have binoculars, please bring them along, and we can point out objects of interest through them as well.
Your tour commences with a guided walk through our Milky Way galaxy, stopping off at constellations, including the visible signs of the Zodiac along the way, as your astronomer explains how the universe works and how stars are formed. Learn about the Southern Cross and how to find the South, see the Magellanic Clouds - two galaxies orbiting our own and hear some stories of the Dreaming.
The team at Milroy Observatory will take you on a unique journey through space and time itself as you witness the wonders of star birth, globular clusters of stars, even planets if they are visible, and much more. You will see that the sky has seasons that beckon you to come back, repeatedly, to follow and learn more about our ever-changing sky.
Terms & Conditions
Overcast Nights
- If the weather is not suitable with rain, severe winds, or thick cloud cover, we will contact you to either reschedule or refund, as our shows are all conducted out of doors.
- Suppose the sky unexpectedly becomes overcast after the show starts. In that case, we may offer an "Ask the Astronomer" session and presentation on the observatory's history, including the different telescopes and how they function. Then, if the sky clears in parts, we will show you what objects we can see through the telescope. If you stay, you agree to participate, and there will be no refunds or credit offered.
Cancellation by Customer
- Your entry fee is refunded if you cancel or change numbers with more than 48 hours notice provided.
- If we cancel due to weather or other reasons beyond our control. In this case, we will contact you to refund or transfer your booking.
- If less than 48 hours notice is given, no refund is given if you cancel.
- To claim your refund, please email, call, or text with your name, booking number, and payment method.
- We are unable to offer partial refunds.
- If you are a no-show for your show at commencement time or leave the presentation before completion for any reason, no refund will be made.
- Credit charge surcharges and booking fees are non-refundable.
