The Cockatoo Run by Night offers a truly unforgettable summer evening escape from the city — a magical twilight train journey through some of New South Wales’ most scenic coastal landscapes.
Departing Sydney – 2:00 PM
Step aboard our heritage diesel-hauled train at Sydney Central Station and enjoy a refreshing ride with open windows as we travel south through the stunning Royal National Park. The route reveals spectacular views of the Illawarra coastline, with sweeping vistas over Stanwell Tops, Wollongong, and Unanderra.
Dinner in Robertson – 6:20 PM
Arrive in the charming village of Robertson, nestled in the Southern Highlands. You’ll have 2.5 hours to enjoy the local atmosphere at your own pace.
Choose from cosy restaurants, historic pubs, and country eateries – all serving up warm hospitality and delicious fare.
Dinner is at your own expense, giving you the freedom to dine your way.

The Night Journey Home
Departing Robertson at 8:30 PM, the train begins a breathtaking descent through the escarpment under the stars. We’ll make a special stop at Summit Tank, where you can step off the train to enjoy sweeping evening views over Lake Illawarra, lit by the glow of the coastline.
The journey concludes with a late-night arrival back in Sydney, around midnight, leaving you with memories of a truly unique rail adventure.

When booking your ticket, you must confirm that you will withdraw yourself and your immediate contacts from the tour before the tour date if you are unwell. A full refund will be provided to any passenger who withdraws due to coronavirus precautions.
Whilst you are able to select your seat, for operational reasons we unfortunately can't guarantee whether any individual seat will be facing forward for the duration of the trip, or whether a given seat will have particular views.
We reserve the right to change seat allocations if required for operational reasons (within the same fare type), and will endeavour to contact you if these changes are significant.
For operational reasons we cannot guarantee that particular locomotives or carriages will be used on this trip, and substitutes may be required on occasion. ECHR reserves the right to make changes to motive power and consists without notice.
We welcome bookings for disabled passengers, and ask that you please contact us to discuss your needs before booking. Due to the limitations of our heritage carriages we unfortunately cannot accept bookings for some disabilities, but we will make every effort to accomodate you where we can.
ECHR reserves the right to cancel any of its services where sufficient bookings are not received to cover operating costs.
Tickets are non refundable. However a credit for a future tour may be granted at the discretion of ECHR.
