Event Information
These classes will be held on a Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm, for 7 sessions.
DATES:
12th, 19th, 26th February
5th, 12th, 19th March
The first 6 sessions are designing and making with clay.
Your pieces need 6 weeks to thoroughly dry, then go through their first firing in a kiln at 1000 degrees which makes them ‘bisque’. Ready to be glazed. Glazing in painting the piece to make it look pretty and / or to make the piece water tight / food safe.
The 7th session with be on 13th May to allow for this process and for you to come back and glaze your pieces.
Your pieces will go through a 2nd firing to harden the glaze and finish your pieces.
What will I be making / learning?
You will be learning a fundamental process to be able to hand build pieces using a coil and blend process.
You will be shown step by step how to build medium size pieces using this technique.
The aim is to focus on making 1 to 3 pieces. To slow down, experience the benefits of the meditative state of creating with clay.
You will be shown how to add handles and decorate the surface of the vessels with simple techniques to enhance the glaze depending on your preferences.
Do I need prior experience?
No, this is suitable for both beginners and people with some experience working with clay. You will be well supported, each step of the way to create your pieces.
You will need to be 14 years or older to attend these classes.
What do I need to bring?
An apron to protect clothing and an open attitude to explore clay.
All materials are included in the cost (including 1 bag of clay).
Cost?
$660 per person per series of classes.
If you require more than 1 bag of clay you will be able to purchase this at an additional cost of $35 per bag.
Commonly asked questions.
What if I can’t attend all the classes? Due to the nature of classes, make up classes cannot be provided.
When will my pieces be ready for collection? Approximately 3 weeks from the final class.
Can I get a refund? Yes up an until 2 weeks prior to the classes commencing. From 1 week prior to classes starting, there are no refunds however you can arrange for someone to attend in your place.
Terms & Conditions
The boring but important stuff.
1. The class can only run if there are a minimum of 8 people attending. If the classes need to be cancelled due to insufficent numbers, a full refund will occur.
2. Ceramics is an art where you have to let go of outcomes. Pieces break, chip, blow up in the kiln or not turn out as you planned. This is part of the process
3. You will be requires to assist with set up, cleaning and pack up.
4. Sometimes delays can occur with firing and delivering pieces back due to life happening. Kilns break down, things take longer than anticipated to dry. It may be longer than 3 weeks to receive your pieces back.
