The Brigadoon Express

A Timeless Journey to the Heart of the Southern Highlands

Step aboard the Brigadoon Express and experience a journey where vintage rail romance meets the stirring sights, sounds, and spirit of Scotland—right in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales.

Departing Sydney in the fresh early morning light on Saturday, 18 April 2026, the Brigadoon Express carries you in relaxed, unhurried style through the countryside aboard beautifully restored 1930s heritage carriages, hauled by classic diesel locomotives. This early morning departure ensures you arrive in Bundanoon well before the Opening Ceremony, giving you time to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the festivities from the very first skirl of the pipes.

From the elegant comfort of our vintage carriages to the vibrant traditions awaiting you on arrival, this is a day rich in culture, celebration, and scenic beauty. Step off the train refreshed and ready to immerse yourself in Bundanoon is Brigadoon, one of Australia’s most iconic and energetic Scottish festivals.

Whether you’re a rail enthusiast, a lover of history, or simply seeking a unique day out, the Brigadoon Express is your gateway to an unforgettable Highland experience.

About the Bundanoon is Brigadoon Highland Gathering

Founded in 1978, Bundanoon is Brigadoon began as a modest pipe band gathering and has since grown into a world-renowned celebration of Scottish heritage. Originally created to raise funds for local charities, the event now supports the broader community while drawing thousands of visitors each year.

Festivities begin with a spectacular street parade featuring more than 25 pipe bands, colourful floats, and clan representations. This is followed by the Opening Ceremony at The Oval, showcasing massed pipes and drums, Scottish country dancing, and Highland dancing in a truly stirring display.

Internationally recognised as one of the finest Highland Gatherings in Australia, Bundanoon is Brigadoon brings the magic of the Scottish Highlands to the heart of New South Wales—and the Brigadoon Express delivers you straight to the centre of it all.
