    Event Information

    The Wellington Caves Complex offers three different guided tours; the Cathedral Cave, the Gaden Cave and the Phosphate Mine. The tours are conducted daily* and each takes around 1 hour to complete.

    *with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

    Cathedral Cave

    The Cathedral Cave is the largest and most popular of the show caves. Highlights of this tour include the Altar (a 15m tall stalagmite), Thunder Cave, Headache Rock and The Well. This tour goes for approximately one hour. There are 150 steps in the Cathedral Cave, so comfortable footwear is recommended. Maximum of 40 persons per tour.

    Gaden Cave

    The Gaden Cave is the smaller of the two show caves but contains large amounts of stalactites, cave coral, flowstone and helictites. This tour goes for approximately one hour. There are 120 steps in the Gaden Cave, so comfortable footwear is recommended. Maximum of 20 persons per tour.

    Phosphate Mine

    The Phosphate Mine was a functioning mine during World War 1 and was closed in 1918. It was renewed and reopened as a tourist attraction in 1995. The Phosphate Mine tour takes you through mine shafts and also showcases areas visited by numerous paleontologists who uncovered Australian megafauna fossils. Maximum 20 persons per tour.

    Please Note:

    • All tours must have a minimum of two paying Adults
    • The Cathedral & Gaden Caves have handrails and are easily accessible to those with reasonable mobility. There are 150 steps in the Cathedral Cave and 120 steps in the Gaden Cave. We suggest you wear comfortable walking shoes.
    • The Cathedral Cave and Gaden Cave do not have wheelchair access. However, the Phosphate Mine is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
    • Hard hats are supplied and must be worn in the Phosphate Mine. 
    • All tours are approximately 1 hour in duration.
    • Hard hats are supplied and must be worn in the mine at all times
    • Enclosed shoes must be worn in the mine and are recommended for the Cathedral and Gaden Cave
    • All children must be accompanied by an adult on all tours
    • Pensioners, Seniors & Students must show proof of their status (blue seniors card or veterans card)
    • Child price includes up to and including 16 years of age (under 5 years free).
    • Suitable enclosed shoes must be worn on all tours
