Event Information

East Coast Heritage Rail invites you to join us on Hawkesbury River Express and Brisbane Waters Limited as we bring this tour back to our roster for 2020!

Join us for a relaxing day tour behind a vintage diesel locomotive with restored carriages from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s.  The train departs the Illawarra, passing through the Royal National Park.  Passengers can also join in Sydney (including at Central) before we head north via Strathfield to traverse the spectacular Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park before arriving at two of Sydney and the Central Coast’s hidden scenic waterways – the Hawkesbury River and Brisbane Water. Here you are presented with the option to combine your train ride with a relaxing lunch cruise exploring the gorgeous bays and pristine inlets of the Hawkesbury River aboard the famous Riverboat Postman, or a stunning open water cruise on Brisbane Water aboard the MV Lady Kendall II, or continue to Gosford for your own lunch.

The Riverboat Postman (deboard at Hawkesbury River**) - add on $48pp ($18pp for children)

The last river postal service still active in Australia having operated since 1910, the Riverboat Postman continues to deliver mail, groceries and essentials to the isolated population scattered upriver from Brooklyn over its leisurely 40km journey. Operated since 2001 by Hawkesbury Cruises, the service now doubles as a tourist experience including morning tea and a Ploughman’s Lunch (the boat is fully licensed), complete with commentary about the area and history from the skipper in addition to the very finest scenery that only the Hawkesbury can offer.

Note that Hawkesbury RIver Station does not have a lift and you will need to use a number of stairs to transfer from the train to the boat.

The MV Lady Kendall II (deboard at Woy Woy) - add on $51.50pp

The Lady Kendall II is 106 ft in length and is the last of the mini liners. The vessel’s seating is custom built soft furnishing in booth style layout and all undercover.  With 7 different passenger areas spread over 3 deck levels, just exploring the ships layout can be quite rewarding. After the crew has welcomed you onboard, an expert commentary given by our Master will enlighten you on the story of the area, the majestic Brisbane Waters is the only place in the world where you will view 5 separate water ways in one outing.  A buffet lunch is included, and the bar is open where you may enjoy a light beverage throughout the journey.

Please note that we will close off bookings for the boats 48 hours prior to departure to confirm numbers.

You may also detrain at Hawkesbury River, Woy Woy or Gosford and enjoy your own lunch or leisurely activities, before returning to Sydney and the Illawarra.
