Night Sky & Telescope Viewing Dubbo Observatory

Your tour guide Peter Starr has a Masters Degree in astronomy and was a Manager at the famous Siding Spring Observatory, Australias largest optical telescope facility.

  • 1 hour and 15 minute show includes:
  • Powerpoint presentation in our theatrette.
  • Talk about what we will see and some basic astronomy.

View the planets, stars, and galaxies through our new 17" telescope in our new observatory.

  • Up to 6 telescopes depending on number of people attending.
  • View at least a dozen different objects through the telescopes.
  • Point out constellations, stars and planets with a laser pointer
  • Explain in detail about what you are looking at.
  • Answer your questions on the night sky and universe.

Astrophotography with your canon, nikon, pentax SLR Camera. We take 1 photo of a colourful nebula at the end of the show for no extra charge. The camera needs to have a lens that can be removed. Mirrorless cameras are generally not compatible.

The show is limited to 50 people maximum though this is rarely achieved outside NSW school holidays and long weekends.

This is mainly an outdoor activity. So dress according to the weather conditions. In some summer months there can be the odd mosquito so either cover up or apply some insect propellant.

Terms & Conditions

By purchasing a ticket, you agree to these terms and conditions.

Children 0 - 3 years.

There is no charge for children between 0 & 3 years. The show is not suitable for this age group but they are welcome to come. The child must sit on your lap during the astronomy talk as there are only sufficent seats for paying customers if the show is full. This age group are not permitted to look through the telescopes as their instinct is to grab the eyepiece which moves the telescope and the telescope is out of action for the rest of the show which means all other ticket holders see less objects. If the child is disruptive to others during the astronomy talk in the lecture theatre we ask that you take them out to the foyer so not to disrupt other ticket holders who are trying to listen.

If you are bringing a child in this age group, please contact me on 0488 425 940, or email or text, to ensure there is sufficient room and so we know how many people will be attending any one session.

Children 4 - 16 years.

Children must be accompanied with a paying adult.

If a ticket is purchased for a child only, the booking will be cancelled and refunded.

We ask you that you supervise your children in that they stay with you and do not run around outside in the dark where they cannot see.

We ask that you serpervise them when looking through the telescopes to ensure they do not grab the eyepiece or telescope which moves the telescope and puts the telescope out of action for the rest of the session menaing less to see for everyone else.

  • Your entry fee is refunded if you cancel with more than 24 hours notice provided.
  • If less than 24 hours notice is given, no refund is given.
