Event Information
Come and view the astonishing night sky through our telescopes with Donna the Astronomer and enjoy our "Night Sky Show".
Farewell to 2025 under the amazing stars at Milroy Observatory with Donna the Astronomer. Join us for late-night stargazing under the dark southern skies and see in 2026. See Jupiter and Saturn.
Come along for our exclusive NYE event - BYO alcohol. We will supply non-alcoholic drinks, grazing platters, and vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Enjoy stargazing at its best in our dark sky location. Be entertained and educated, and have fun as you count in the New Year and see galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters through our telescopes. Limited numbers and bookings are required.
The show will be outside so a light jacket would be a good idea.
The Night Sky Show, presented by our resident astronomer, offers views and a tour of the pristine dark skies from the incredibly dark sky location at Milroy Observatory, Coonabarabran. Our shows are hands-on, and you can look at many objects through a telescope.
If you have binoculars, please bring them along, and I can point out objects of interest as well.
Your tour commences with a guided walk through our Milky Way galaxy, stopping off at constellations, including the visible signs of the Zodiac, as your astronomer explains how the universe works and how stars are formed. You will also learn about the Southern Cross and how to find the South, see the Magellanic Clouds—two galaxies orbiting our own—and hear some stories of the Dreaming.
Donna the Astronomer will take you on a unique journey through space and time as you witness the wonders of star birth, globular clusters of stars, even planets if they are visible and much more. You will see that the sky has seasons that beckon you to come back, repeatedly, to follow and learn more about our changing sky.
Please note: Due to ongoing issues, the historic 40-inch telescope will not be available for viewing or photography until further notice. We are working on the issue and will keep you updated.
Overcast Nights
If the weather is not suitable, with rain, severe winds, or thick cloud cover, we will contact you to reschedule or refund, as our shows are all conducted outdoors.- Suppose the sky unexpectedly becomes overcast after the show starts. In that case, we may offer an "Ask the Astronomer" session and presentation on the Solar System, Observatory or other relevant topic. Then, if the sky clears in parts, we will show you what objects we can see through the telescope. If you stay, you agree to participate, and no refunds or credit will be offered.
Cancellation by Customer
- Your entry fee is refunded if you cancel or change numbers with more than 48 hours' notice provided.
- We will contact you to refund or transfer your booking if we cancel due to weather or other reasons beyond our control.
- If less than 48 hours' notice is given, no refund is given if you cancel.
- To claim your refund, please email, call, or text with your name, booking number, and payment method.
