Why Can't I Pass Fees on to the Buyer Anymore?

From 1 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) no longer permits card surcharges. This means the card payment fee can no longer be passed on to customers as an extra charge at checkout.

The price customers see is the total they pay. Nothing extra is added at checkout.

How Fees Are Applied

Under Additional Settings, in the Payments and fees section of your event:

  • Pass on booking fees to customer? – When ticked (the default), the booking fee is built into the ticket price customers see. When unticked, you cover the booking fee from your sale proceeds.

  • Pass on payment fees to customer? – This option is greyed out. The payment fee is always covered by you and taken from your sale proceeds.

  • If you wish to recover the payment fee, factor it into your ticket price.

Why This Changed

The updated RBA requirements are designed to:

  • Improve pricing transparency.
  • Ensure customers see the total ticket price upfront.
  • Reduce unexpected charges during checkout.

Tips

  • Consider your booking and payment costs when setting your ticket prices.
  • Review your ticket pricing before publishing your event.
  • Ensure your advertised ticket price includes any costs you wish to recover.
  • If you're unsure how fees apply to your account, please contact our support team.
